The smell of a freshly inked book makes my nose sparkle.
That’s how I feel

about books, and Pablo a graphic novel about Fernande Oliver, and Picasso’s relationship in his early days, before Les Demoiselles, and after. It is a beautifully written and painted book by (artist) Clément Oubrerie and (writer) Julie Birman. To the right is a favorite panel, about half way through the book.

This Painting (Rise Above) is in a show in Damarascotta ,ME starting May 29, and running through June 25th at the River Arts Gallery. They have a Facebook page also, in case you want to check that out. Show opening is May 29, 5-7pm if you want to be there.

Doing the 30 Days of Drawing Challenge I have a 6×10 inch spiral bound for this. I plan on using a Prismacolor marker for each drawing, and not taking more than 15 minutes, including any color (which may be needed some days.)

Self Portrait (Astronaut)

I always loved space, and Science Fiction. I’ve dreamed of going into space, or to different a different planet to live since I was a kid. I got my first science fiction book (that I remember) in 1967 or 1968: The Beyond by Jean and Jeff Sutton, and have been reading SF and advocating space exploration ever since. At 54 I’ve pretty much given up on that dream, for myself, but hope that humanity does make it. It’s our only chance to survive, really. This year, for my yearly self portrait I painted myself as an astronaut, to commemorate that dream. There it is: Acrylic on Canvas; 14×11 inches.
